Lotts Architecture were asked by Louth County Council to provide ideas for public discussion in the formulation of a design strategy for the village of Omeath. Omeath lies on the north shore of Carlingford Lough at the foot of the Carlingford and Black mountains. The village layout remains coherent with a strong landscape presence at the waterside and a number of fine trees scattered throughout its setting as individuals and groups. The approach suggested interventions along the main routes, the shoreside and harbour area to reinforce the historic village and landscape character. Housing layouts were suggested for a number of empty sites in the village to demonstrate appropriate choice of scale and respect to existing historic structures.
