Project Title:

St Etchen’s Church, Killucan, Co Westmeath

Client:

Mullingar Union of Parishes

Project Details:

Following conservation work to the spire, roof, pointing and windows a full internal refurbishment of this typical hall-and-tower church was undertaken. A contemporary insertion was created providing a disabled-accessible WC and a Sunday School room with kitchenette below a new gallery, designed to be visually compatible with the historic interior. The insertion took the position of an earlier gallery, and utilised an existing pointed window opening  to light the Sunday School, reusing a blocked window to light the WC.  The organ was moved to the gallery from an outcrop at the side of the chancel, making way for a new side chapel, and bringing more light into the formerly cluttered sanctuary. New lighting, heating and PA system were installed and alterations were made to pews for wheelchair users,
