Phased conservation and adaptation of this vernacular farmstead began with re-thatching the existing farmhouse and conversion of the adjoining barn as a kitchen/living space. Walls were insulated internally using lime-hemp and a thin multi-foil insulation was used for the roof to maintain the historic trusses exposed to view. Planning permission was obtained for a two-storey extension inspired by vernacular farmyard forms, connecting the barn, cottage and extension by means of a glazed living space facing the former haggard.
