The Swan Bar is in its present form dates from 1897 but may contain elements of an earlier eighteenth century building within the structural fabric. Aungier Street was the central thoroughfare within the seventeenth century Aungier Estate. 58 York Street is a Victorian public house of very high architectural quality having residential accommodation at the upper levels and retaining architectural features throughout. Parts of the building may contain some fabric dating to the seventeenth or eighteenth century. To date refurbishment work includes the decorative stucco façade, roof and basement.
